If you have any news on the latest questionable activities of the Dimensional Manga Alliance we would just love to know. Simply post them up in the screened comments below, including any links / supporting evidence / embarrassing facts, and we will put them to good use.

Anonymity is 100% assured and the wish for it is 100% assumed unless you explicitly ask us to use your name. We appreciate the hounding that the Dimensional Manga Alliance will give to any critics & do not wish to bring drama into your lives.

We also accept any artwork that will help promote our goals :-)

Withdrawing from Manga Alliance

Regarding Manga Alliance:

When I was first approached to be a part of Manga Alliance (then under the name of Japanime Network) I was very excited by the scope and scale of what had been put forth. Having events, sites and groups helping one another to further the anime community in this country - was something that I definitely wanted to be a part of. I saw it as a chance to fix a lot of problems as I saw them - the credit-crunch harming a lot of the industry, progressing anime into the main-stream stagnating and a lot of events not getting the publicity and recognition they deserve (notable exception are the anime news sites and certain forums which are fantastic). I felt that this was a great chance to help put all this right, and to "move forward together".

However, the motives and purpose were seen in a negative light. It would be easy to blame everyone else for this, but the truth of the matter is that we were very naive and we tried to do this without applying the necessary research or thinking how a lot of people might quite logically interpret it.

The biggest issue was the mascot. I now understand how the usage of a commercial mascot is a very bad way to represent an entire country's community. It made the venture seem too commercial and too much like a publicity-tool, which it was never intended to be. If an icon to represent the UK is to be built, it must originate from the community and be entirely non-commercial.

I also understand that a number of our actions may have offended other conventions. Again, this was down to an ignorance on our own part, rather than a deliberate means to cause offence. I personally apologise to any group that might have felt insulted or offended by this.

Finally, there were a couple of incorrect announcements such as an email that I sent out claiming Auchinawa to be a member. I never set out to knowingly deceive anyone or lie on my part, and that I wholely and sincerely apologise - though I can only send out what I am told by others, it is something that should have been double and triple-checked.

Some things though, such as the ideas of bringing in new events, groups and sites, of openly sharing resources and knowledge, of helping this entire community, of giving anime and manga a higher profile in the UK, and raising our profile internationally are goals that Animeleague will continue to persue.

However, I now understand that these goals will not be achieved, and may even be undermined, by a Manga Alliance. I am aware that much of the anime scene is already very well connected and networked - something that has taken place over a very long period of time. I am also aware that myself, Animeleague and Alcon may well struggle to be a significant part of this after everything that has happened here - this is perfectly understandable. We will continue to do our own thing, and we will continue to work with whoever is happy to work with us on whatever level.

Animeleague will continue to work with and help out Dimensional Entertainment, Showmasters and our other former partners in Manga Alliance - in the same manner that we work with many other groups and companies within the UK. However, with regard to Manga Alliance itself, I hold up my hands, say I was wrong, and sincerely apologise for it. As such we shall be withdrawing from Manga Alliance with immediate effect.

Finally, to those who have had concerns - you can email me on mtowers1982@yahoo.co.uk either giving your name or remaining anonymous. I will also be attending Ayacon, so if anyone wants to talk to me about everything there then please do so - you never know, we might even get along. :)
